the first new single from small world disco edits label in 2011 comes from the don of italy: ltj. dope.

so what is the sound of progressive disco? well it captures the insane rhythm and the unforgiving driving beat that is instantly found in the funk of the early seventies but real disco music also had a formula that would guarantee the hottest djs success if played at the right time. that formula was a blend of up-tempo rhythm sections laden with south american percussion mixed with soulful vocals and orchestral strings - a symphony of sex, lust and love. we change the formula and focus on the rock, electronic and dub elements - slower, sleazy and fun.

fresh beats delivered directly from the caribbean by venezuelan producer trujillo on his latest appearance on the spanish-venezuelan label apersonal music. trujillos ability to make you feel caught up in an eternal summer vibe gets clearer and stronger with every track he releases. on this release main single >fruit punch< is simplicity at its best, squeezing the most out of basic classic-house elements. it builds up slowly until the original guitar tunes in, thats when you take a sip of your fruit punch (or whatever sweet drink comes handy) and enjoy the sea breeze in your face (whether its there or not..). for the extra flavor on your drink they pour an edit-format track >looking up through you<. lots of original ingredients here enough to make this edit an own piece of music... venezuelan keyboard player mister casanova on board plus trujillo mixing it all up in his best poolside bar style. fresh juicy punched stuff here! on the remix department 2 remix versions from uk based producer toby tobias plus a classy fashioned remix from canadian eddie c. tobias is a hard working man, and when you ask him for one he hits you twice, hard to pick one remix although one had to be selected for digital only release (size matters some time!). what can we say about eddie c.. apersonal had already made a statement that they love classic grooves, and it cant get classier than eddies beats on his remix! this groove is what house music is all about, and it will always be.

a1 fur elodie is a cheapy guitar tune combined with the piano to form acoustic sound. other elements are also quite cheapy but sounds very good altogether as a confortable track. a very atmospheric tune to hypnotize people into fumiyas deeper side. the original version is on his album unknown 3 released in 2008. b1 ring bell is a track combined an acoustic loopy drum with a modular bass sound to form a kind of rare groove. a kind of chant starts coming in out at certain points to take you somewhere you have never been before. b2 dealer trick (short version) has got a kind of old school flavour and sounds quite like 90s house with fumiyas dirty, cheeky, and loopy groove. a trick for jack in the box

danish producer martinez rarely fails to surprise club music lovers with his versatile views on techno and house. his very special enthusiasm enables him to seize new musical territory with every release. with his debut record on cadenza, his house sound develops another depth, a more general view of the ever evolving tension between life and music. the mzuzu ep is all about bass. the bass is all around, the bass gushes into every corner of the club, it pervades concrete and iron. while the low frequencies deal ruthlessly with architecture, they are kind to us humans. the basslines put the dancers in a conforting state of hypnosis which might be an unconscious reminder of the long gone time when one still rested in ones mothers womb. it arouses the memory of a state when one is completely merged with the surroundings. martinez reorganises the structure of house music: the lashing grooves cease to be the center of the tracks. martinez moves the heartbeat of the music from the beats to the bass. its firmness releases the other elements of the tracks, creating a free-spirited feeling. freed from their regular task the grooves are enabled to be rough and open. instead of trying to control the crowd, they ravish us with their liberating energy. the tracks rarely need anything else. the icing on the cake consists in tiny vocal samples. creating an irritating athmosphere, they put us in a state of constant curiosity. disolving completely into the flow of the tracks, the human voices become pure sound. >mzuzu chant< & >adagio< are for the beautiful moments when the dancing crowd detaches itself from time and space

erell ranson is based in the north of france and has already released memorable records on arne weinbergs aw-recordings, as well as on his own myself label. he expresses his personality through these soulful productions, and this new release on adepth demonstrates how his great talent has developed even further. each track on the new everything needs to be clear ep is an individual musical journey in its own right. the 4 track ep begins with erells original version of >everything needs to be clear<. its combination of gentle chords with electro beats is the foundation of the musical ideas explored throughout this release. the second track, >so strange to explain<, is deeper and an adventurous fusion of dark, intense tones, swirling beats and insistent percussion. on the flipside, canadian rennie foster remixes the title track, and delivers a fine piece of modern dancefloor techno which respects the key elements of title track. erells >sandcastle< closes the ep, and its sophisticated yet punchy bassline and fragile synths recall some classic early 90s productions.

a1: your last chance - very housey vibe on this one, with a heavy kick drum/snare combo. expanding synth line and very subtle percussive elements help the track build. it really kicks in when the vocals hit along with a funky ass bass groove. beautiful! a2: sailin 79 - slow paced track, centred on the vocal. great backing with bass, rising & shooting synth sounds. not so much for the dance floor, a great track for bar surroundings or a low key dj set! b1: youre welcome - smooth groove on this one, vocals are really well executed and give the track a great edge. killer track! b2: love is gone - super chilled track with a cosmic disco feel. waving synths, and echoed vocals create a very big sound. this track is encapsulating, pulling you into the groove for the entirety and sticking in your mind once its ended! brilliant stuff!

fof kick off 2011 with a nod to the past in the form of justin drake (peace division) and kevin griffiths- (tsuba) -the devil-s eyes-, a deliciously grimy jackin- groove, coming on like a low slung mid 90s house production a la schatrax. we enlisted the talents of christopher rau for the first remix. as many of you know christopher has had an impressive 2010 culminating in his critically acclaimed lp -asper clouds- for the always excellent smallville label. chris cleverly uses elements of the original, intertwined them into an altogether quirkier, more optimistic deep house groove with a definite injection of -fun-: to round off the package, new talent bleak takes the reigns, providing a peak time techno stomper. bleak-s debut single will be released on hamburg imprint -sudden drop- sometime in early 2011 and promises to mark bleak out as a name to look out for.

the second release on claap appeals to those who enjoy mixing long transitions and like to create moments during their dj set. sounds from the continents features two wonderfull musical collages, inspired from the favourite findings of label head gummihz in world music. loose percussion, hypnotising xylophones, guitars and singing voices take you on an introductory trip to the beautiful soundscapes of the african continent. high priest and toba lee theme also feature elements of field recordings which alex has collected throughout the years. sharpened with an extra edge for those who seek!

mysterious shadows, sensual formations and intransparent depths rewrite the fourth baud release of ryo murakami from tokyo. the a-side is launched by the title track >underworld<, which is evident in an appealing soundscape by classical and contemporary dub elements. also on the front side is the playful >night dew<. swirled iridescent synths attend to the atmospheric and unexplored morning dew. >closer< opens the b-side with a gentle, bubbling acidline that rounds off the background with jacking swinging moments. like an enchanted, dark veil >fog< appears on the back side, by building up strings into unsearchable depths

label owner, ryuji takeuchi, teamed up with germanys all time favorite, lars klein, to drop this final weapon to the dance floor all over the world. their successful trustworthy men series on a legendary lk recordings has always been in demand and this 4 tracker ep wont be just another piece of the series, but with new idea an approach, it wont disappoint any techno heads. on the a side, youll find 2 modern proper techno tunes by ryuji takeuchi, that involve his unique driving and hypnotic components with angry style breaks. on the b side, lars klein provided 2 great dark modern techno tracks, which come with driving and atmospheric elements. make sure to get it in hands and witness the birth of the new imprint.

the debut release by molly wagger is the single >weekend<. the original mixes a forlorn and melancholy vocal with an uplifting major 7th piano driven backing. to complete the release we also include the live favourite >molly<, an ode to one of the band members cat. all elements are tinged with a grey-skied but undeniably optimistic scottish pulse which makes it all the more an interesting listening experience.
richard norris in his time and space machine guise take things into 12 inch territory with his remix on the flip side. we gave him the balearic brief and true to form that is exactly what he has delivered, a touch of granite and dark edinburgh afternoons mixed with some ibizan post sunset haze.

memoryman - aint no big edit: great percussive elements bring this track to life! short stabs of echoey synth carefully placed throughout add to the atmosphere, the track builds and builds. there is a strong house/techno feel but the slow tempo ensures it grooves, a big track! and lovely vocals with the deep bass work really well!
side b: ltj - all night: hypnotic loop carries the track, slow bass grooves and the vocal is perfect! a dancefloor gem! would be a great secret for any djs bag!

the hideout deconstruction revisited series is going into phase two, here we go: after the french connection (d julz and paul ritch ) , this new release sees a more international bundle of top class producers : to start , we have dusseldorfs master producer martin buttrich (desolat , planet e , ...) put his magic hands on davide squillace & luca bacchetti s around the bay ( ho001). the track starts with an >acoustic style< beat and, a strong sine sub bass line, evolving to a jacking groove with rising vocal sample , intelligent synth lines , and arabic flute break. on b2 , carola pisaturo ( titbit , claque) delivers a more minimal rework , using bouncy sub bass , vocal snipets , 909 snare and clap ... giving davide squillace and luca bacchettis around the bay a rebirth. on the flip side, mathias kadens ( vakant , cocoon ) relecture starts with a strong shuffled tribal beat , 909 toms , synth lines ... mathias interprets the original elements of around the bay in a very personal way , dropping snipets into reverbs and delays in order to create a deep rising atmosphere untill the track peaks.

after several hot tunes on worthy’s anabatic imprint, birminghams tom flynn joins the ranks of the dirtybird crew. i ve battle tested the a-side of this record all around the world. >catch that bird< is a rare mix of deep rooted funk whilst also sounding like a caribbean jungle track pitched down to 126. my favorite!
i d play this ep just on the strength of the a-side but i feel like a lot of attention will also be given to the b-side called >rhode island<. this is a classic piece of deep house with all the melodic elements of a dirtybird jam.
tom sent me at least 7 tracks before i signed these so the guy is certainly prolific and i expect to hear quite a bit more from this up and comer this year.

it would be a complete mistake for any house imprint not to include a us talent in his catalog, this wont be the case for apersonal music. on its third effort the label takes his first journey to the grounds of american house. from arizona, michael j collins with remix rework from bostons house-sons soul clap, plus the first collaboration for apersonal from maurice aymard. a side single nothing wrong with holding on show us the most eclectic side of the label so far. looped vocals, broken house with a saxo on top. michaels talent goes beyond genres mixing elements from different styles to create this great piece of music. soul clap delivers, as usual, top stuff! in their remix they speed up the bpm and add a hip-breaker bassline taking the original track to the dancefloor war zone. second remix from maurice aymard, himself at the controls plus venezuelan producer garnica hitting the drums, they take the track to a trippy slowmo version, what maurices catalogs as his best remix so far.

with their first co-production, dj / producer paul woolford and the irish-born producer team paul hamill and dee lievense aka psycatron deliver the prove that uk techno has not lost any of its energy or visionary power in the year 2010. after releases for carl craigs planet e label and r & s (psycatron) resp. 2020 vision or renaissance (paul woolford), the two tracks on the >thunder ep< are consequently moving to the next level. >thunder< impresses with extremely dynamic drumming and always changing percussion patterns. a rhythm body that is constantly in motion and will be enlightening every single dance floor with its hypnotic power dub. >cloud 9<, however, is stepping back at first and stresses an explicit chord techno structure despite its solid pumping elements before integrating some noise rave signals following the epic break after some 5 minutes, as it was totally naturally and thus letting the whole floor blast off. with such joy of telling and the eagerness to experiment in a musical way, you are really looking forward to the winter club season 2010/2011!

philipp >santé< maier has made some crucial intrusions on souvenir: almost a brother-in-law for ali and basti schwarz, he has been fine-tuning tiefschwarz latest album >chocolate< , plugged the power to their new live-act and contributed daily to the good-working order of the imprint at kremmerer straße. as a producer on his own, philipp has got the soul as well as the muscles, two elements perfectly combined, which have made his live-sets one of the most exciting performances of the current berlin scene.

the owl, like its namesake, sits in the shadows. its deep, dubby bassline lazily rolls along, as our franco-italian alliance layer their percussive elements. string stabs usher in the smooth-keyed break, before that weighty bass drops back in. on the flip, txarco brings a sinister, somewhat industrial brand of funk, provided brilliantly by its growling, predatory bassline. as scything sounds, breathy vocals, and a variety of drums rolls lunge from the darkness, and fade just as quickly, we are constantly guarded by our bassline protector.

>les patates<, the fresh new rrygular release by tassilo, one half of pan-pot, is not an homage to french agriculture but a serious techno smasher with high club potential. at first, theres just a nice party atmosphere and … then this rough beat drops in! the small potatoe >petite patate< surprises by adding rudimental elements like the hihat and snare drum always a little late. but you have the feeling you havent missed something yet. this number just sneaks from behind and lulls you in with billowing pads until you sense the final rave sound as a self-evident consequence of it all. the message by g-tech right before the drop proves right - there is not a lack of vibration here! its all about the mixture … and in this case its just felicitous: male choir, clanking cymbals and finally the riff that this track subsists on. tassilo knows how to send the short melody-figure through the different stages of sound design, even though it might have been lively enough without it. this gives the big potatoe >grosse patate< a level of dynamic, that most contemporary techno releases just dont provide.
